Watch part of the Peace Corps documentary "The American Idealist"  about R. Sargent Shriver Jr.

He created the new Peace Corps program at the request of the newly inaugurated President John F. Kennedy and with the help of Vice President Lyndon B. Johnson and others. He served as the first Peace Corps Director from March 22, 1961 until succeeded by DR friend Jack Vaughn on February 28, 1966. You can watch Shriver's story on your computer at: http://www.morepeacecorps.org/about/peace_corps_history?

A truly remarkable man, Sarge Shriver is a role model to all, and for many RPCVs and former staff he was our boss.
